WIPs and FPs, on a Christmas Eve

So many projects completed over the last month... most of which I failed to get photos of before they were given away! I completed 3 pairs of mittens for my son's Mitten Tree at school... did I take any pictures of them? Naw. I also made a pair for each of my kids, so maybe I'll post those later.

A couple of completed washcloths, to be given to my mother in law.

These are a couple of scarves I am giving to my friend. The purple/blue/green fuzzy muppet scarf is sort of for jokey, since I don't think she'll wear it for real, but she can give it to her niece and nephew for playtime. The gray scarf is going to have pockets at the end.

Have you seen me?

Some mother farggin' ice hole stole our turkey inflatable, right out of our yard! Nick is heartbroken. What kind of lowlife scum steals a kid's freakin' holiday decoration? Never mind that I'm out $45... ok, I actually mind that I'm out $45. And you can't get another one, this one was hard enough to find! Nick just can't understand why anyone would do this, and I don't know what to tell him, because I don't know either. Bastiches.

knit bloggin

Margo helps me model my finished dishrag, made from the Sugar 'n' Cream Denim. It's going to my MIL for xmas, and I've made a solid blue one to compliment it.

Woot, woot-- done with the vest for Afghans for Afghans. It turned out pretty well, although there is a little bit of scrunchage up by the left shoulder. Not sure if blocking would have helped.

But.... will I get it mailed in time? It's got to get there by Friday. Best get my ass in gear, then.

knit bloggin'

I'm going to take pictures of some finished objects soon. too... much... work... to upload pix from camera... channelling... shatner...? Pringle is modelling my "Sugar n Cream" Denim colorway, which became a beautiful washcloth. I'll be knocking out a buttload of those babies for Xmas, yo.

Trying the book meme again...

"Despite the repression of 1835, therefore, Islam in Brazil endured, though lowering its profile. Even in 1869, when the dymanics of importation began to undermine the health of Islam in Brazil, Muslims fought to retain their precipitous plunge in the number of captives from the Bight of Benin arriving in Brazil, falling from 43 percent of 3270 who disembarked between 1851 and 1855, to zero percent of the total of 9525 from 1856 to 1875."

Book: Black crescent : the experience and legacy of African Musilms in the Americas / Michael A. Gomez.

book meme

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig for that “cool” or “intellectual” book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

so I tried it. The book closest to hand: Cookies : the little guides (which is natch a cookie cookbook replete with photos.) There weren't 5 sentences; there wasn't even text, just a caption to a photo. Here it is:

"The merengue layer is spread over the hot brownie crust, sprinkled with chopped nuts and coconut, and baked until set and golden."

Intellectually stimulating, yes? I'll try it again some other time with a real book.

Knit Bloggin'

On the needles: a hooded sweater for my daughter, in Homespun Colonial. I bought 3 skeins for a dollar at a yard sale, which also included a couple of sets of needles and some bedspread weight cotton thread. Maybe I'll make snowflakes for Christmas!

Also on the needles: another knitted blanket, in Navy "One Pounder", for to drape on the back of the hubby's new Daddy Chair. (Thanks for helping me model it, Pringle Kitty!) I made one exactly like it for my son last year, in Cranberry. The details are kind of pretty:
I changed the diamonds to be a baskety-type stitch, to jazz it up a little and to match the border. Not sure if I'm loving it, but I've gone too far to rip it out.

What's on my iPod

Or, what's on my Samsung YP-T7J, as the case may be. I've seen lotsa blog posts where the person lists the next 10 songs shuffled up onto their iPod, so I'm giving it a try. Here goes... [shuffle, shuffle]

"Down" Stone Temple Pilots
"Mmmbop" Hanson
"Garden" Pearl Jam
"My Lovin'" En Vogue
"The Way You Look Tonight" Tony Bennett
"Shine" Collective Soul
"Puddle of Grace" Amy Johnson
"Radioactive" The Firm
"Suspicious Minds" Elvis
"Say You'll Be There" Spice Girls

Looks like the algorhythm in the device is stuck on my "VH1 I Love the 90's" soundtrack. Oh well, I didn't listen to a lot of pop in the '90's, so I had some catching up to do.

on the needles

Thought I'd try some Knit Bloggin' (tm) and show the world my work in progress. Currently I'm doing a Slytherin scarf. I've done a Harry Potter/Gryffindor scarf, with the maroon and gold; the kids somehow put big holes in that one. So I got my hands on some Red Heart Super Saver light grey (living in Buckeye country, it's easy to come by any brand yarn in scarlet or grey). When I knit my hubby his Dr. Who scarf, I had bought some Red Heart Classic paddy green, but I decided that it was too bright for that purpose. So I switched in a more forest-y green and swiped the paddy for myself. With green and grey in hand, a Slytherin scarf is the next natural step!

In case anyone's wondering about the pattern-- there is none! it's a scarf, yeh knit 'til it's long enuf. I'm doing it on 10.5 needles (after working on 3 dpns, I wanted to knock this next thing out quickly.) It's 50 stockinette sts. across, 24 rows of each color. I'm going to fold it in half and sew it up like a tube so the smooth knit is on the outside. I'll probably fringe it in grey, I dunno.

knitting for charity

Some cute newborn hats I made for Afghans for Afghans, a charity knitting group-- I omitted the goofy pompoms from the tops. I love the color combos. They're made from Paton's Classic Wool, which is 100% wool.

Like 'em? Kinda crazy, right? These are some infant socks I made for the same group. They're made with Lion Brand Magic Stripes, Jellybean colorway. The two in the middle were the first pair-- when I went to start the 2nd pair, the colors on sock #3 worked out to be nearly identical to sock #1. So, I made up the 2nd pair and switched them around to match. It was fate, or something!
